Midland Business Alliance
Reality Store- Coleman Community Schools
What is “The Reality Store”?
The Reality Store is a “packaged” program that helps
students think about their future in terms of the financial resources they will
need to support their desired lifestyle. Students are given a simulated
checkbook, with a full month’s salary for their chosen career, and then must
visit various stations, paying the same types of bills that we all pay on a
monthly basis: taxes, housing, transportation, child care, grocery, etc.
Students will discover whether or not their chosen occupation will support their
desired lifestyle, and, at the end of the simulation, will visit with a
professional to determine what changes they could have implemented to ensure a
more positive financial outcome.
What do you need volunteers to do?
We need volunteers from the business community to staff the
various stations in morning shifts and afternoon shifts. Staffing a station
means working one-on-one with the students to help them decide
between different purchasing options. All information is provided to volunteers
ahead of time; you don't need to develop or plan anything!
Coleman Community School Volunteer Shift Time:
Morning Shift: 7:45 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
If you are interested in volunteering or learning more about the volunteer opportunity, please email Kristen Sanborn at the Midland County ESA at firstname.lastname@example.org.
