The Chamber's Partnerships for Education programs link the needs and resources of businesses with those of our schools. Partnerships is one of the ways Midland County connects career preparation for students and the employment needs of the future.
Partnerships is directed by a volunteer Council of business and education representatives. Most of our programs are joint ventures with other area organizations or schools. Sometimes we work with our counterparts from surrounding communities. Examples of recent programming include:
-
Career Night (every other fall)
-
J. Kermit Campbell Partnership Award
-
Midland Area Teen Job Fair
-
Good Apple Award
-
The Reality Store
Would you like to volunteer a few hours with local schools, but don't know how? We can get you connected!
We're gearing up to bring the Reality Store program to many local schools and this is a great way to get you and your employees involved. The Reality Store is a program gives area 8th graders a pretend salary, a checkbook and an opportunity to live like an adult. They have to make all the same purchases adults do from health insurance to car payments. All directions and materials are provided for you; this is truly a turn-key volunteer opportunity!
Please email Diane Middleton at dmiddleton@macc.org or call her at 839-9522 ext. 204 to volunteer. The morning shifts are generally from 7:30 to 12:15, and afternoon shifts are generally from 12:30 to 2:45. Please contact Diane for specifics on each individual day.
Here is the schedule of upcoming Reality Stores:
Thursday, December 9 (morning) - Meridian Middle School
Friday, January 28 (morning) - Bullock Creek Middle School
Friday, February 11 (all day) - Central Middle School
Tuesday, March 15 (all day) - Northeast Middle School
Wednesday, April 20 (all day) - Jefferson Middle School
Tuesday, May 10 (morning) - Coleman Middle School
Want to get involved? Contact Diane Middleton, Director of Community Programs for more information or call 989/839-9522 ext. 204.
